Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating properly. When this happens, the heart needs to be shocked into beating properly again. This procedure is called defibrillation. According to Heart and Stroke foundation of Canada, as many as 45,000 canadians can experience a sudden cardiac arrest each year.

According to the Heart and Stroke foundation, the immediate use of an AED along with Cardiopulmonary recuscitation (CPR) can increase chance of survival by 75%.

Huge thank you to AED.CA for their generous donation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)to our centre. Having an AED on site gives us great comfort in knowing that if ever there is a medical emergency on site we will be able to deliver the best and most immediate lifesaving care to a person in need as we await medical professionals.

Early access to CPR and defibrillation is vital. AED’s are small, portable machines that:
– Analyze the persons heart rhythm
– Determine whether a shock in needed
– Use voice or screen prompts to guide rescuer through the process
